Rory has made this log cabin cushion. It will look really good once the cushion pad is inserted.

Margaret one of this years beginners has made this bag. She enjoyed it so much she is going to make another one.

Trish has made this lovely quilted piece. The design idea was from a celtic book.

Pat has made this oriental looking cushion. It is hand pieced and hand quited. A real achievement.

Sandra has made this lovely bag. Some say it would be good for wine but maybe it has other uses.

Linda Has made this bag which caused a few headaches. The size in the book made an odd sized bag so we modified it and now a useful size.

Rae found this pattern in Karin Hellaby's book and bought the material and has made a super job of it.

Sylvia has modified a panel and added her own patchwork in the borders. She has also done some beautiful quilting but we can not see it in the photo.

Pauline has beaten me to it. We saw this pattern in the Heirloom quilting book and some of us decided to try it. The structure is very similar to Cathedral windows.

Lyn has made a very good effort with her first sampler quilt. The colours worked very well.

Sandra has made this bright quilt which has really come to life since she added the sashing with light squares at the intersections.

Jenny has made her first zipped bag and threatens many more.

Rory has made this baby pocket hanging. Most of this was done at home.

Peggy has made this cushion with the leftovers of the quilt.

Linda has made this colourful play mat for her god children. What a kind grandmother.

Rory wanted to make a baby block quilt and within a few weeks this was made. Apparently matching the joins wer not so easy. The quilt was hand quilted.

Jane has made a complex quilt that still needs quilting but with the leftovers came this cushion. The top has plenty of hand quilting.

Little Margaret has become a designer and created this cushion the other side is below.

Leanna has made up this cock-a-doodle-doo hanging. Can you believe there are bananas all over it.

Betty did the workshop on fabric manipulation and from her own ideas created this cushion.

Betty wanted to try drunkards path so I showed her how to apply a circle to a square and cut into quarters. It might be a cheat but who are you cheating?

Linda has made this soft brushed cotton cot quilt. I am sure it will be cuddled for years.

Susanne has made this gentle cot quilt and hand quilted and applied flowers.

Margaret has made this small quilt. It is hand quilted.

Estelle is making a set of Australian post cards super size. Watch this space.

Lavinia has made this second bag. She wanted to make lots but I think she has changed her mind.

Linda has made this for her grandchildren. This was her own design and worked very well.

Janet has created a quick crazy quilt after the many other ones after the workshop last year.

Carol wanted to try some Bargello and made this rectangular cushion.

Leza has now finished the second cushion. The colours are lovely and this one was quite complicated.

Peggy has made this quilt for a relative in Canada. its a shame you can not see the quilting very well as it was really well done.

Jo bought this beach scene material then put it together in columns. Jo quilted over the water and sand enhancing the quilt.

Leza has become obsessed with foundation paper piecing. this is the first of 4 chair cushions each with a different pattern.

This quilt was made by Hilary. The quilting was designed and hand made. Well done for keeping at it.

Jean has made this quilt for her grand daughter. The quilt was made in 2 halves to simplify quilting. The hearts were bonded on then hand stitched with a buttonhole stitch. The rest of the quilt was machine quilted.

Mags made this lovely bag using a New york beauty foundation paper version and machine quilted. the handles were made and plaited.

Rory has made this super bag and now others want to make the same. I will warn you there is a lot of work involved. i think the pattern was bought by one of the students from Rustic Angels at the Brokenhurst Fiesta 2 years ago.

I thought I had better put my samples together rather than keep a pile of blocks. This is the start of a small quilt but borders are required yet. Keep looking for a few more borders to come.

Joyce made this cushion with her leftovers from the seat cushion.

Betty has finished her quilt started during the braid workshop. It wotks well with a light background as well as the usual dark ones which can be seen below.

Gill left us this year but on a visit I managed to take this quilt which had been quilted by Quiltessence. It is a simple block but looks super.

Joyce made this cushion cover for seat for a relative. There are embroidery details which can not be seen on here.

Barbara has made this quilt for her daughter. Sue of Quiltessence did the quilting for her.

Carol has made this small wall hanging. Apparently Sun Bonnet sue is going to have more added.

Margaret must have worked all hours to get this huge quilt done. She has hand quilted it too. It was another result from the Prarie workshop.

Jenny has made this quilt to put on the end of her bed. It is a shame the quilting is not visible because she hand quilted this with her own design.

Linda has joined in with many of my students by making her bag to use to bring her patchwork to classes. So many of the students have made versions of this bag which I designed 3 years ago as an example of various blocks as a first introduction to patchwork. The other side is displayed below.

This is the back of Margarets quilt. look at the front and see how she has constructed it. Food for thought if you want to do free machining on your quilt.

Margaret has made this crazy quilt by making each block and machine quilting each one then constructed all the blocks with the black sashing. Margaret then had the task of adding the sandwiched borders and as you can see the corners were mitred.

Rory gas completed her braid piece started during a workshop and she has machine quilted hers.

Jenny has totally hand made and quilted this cushion and amazing for her first piece.

Margaret has made this runner for her piano. A picture in place would be good.

Susanne's made a quillow and this is the back. The front follows. Quillows are clever as the quilt can be folded into the cushion panel on the back.

Susanne has made this Quillow with lovely animal characters in each block.

Leza has made this attic windows cot quilt. The challenge is to count the ducks!!

Sandra has spent hours making this pretty cot quilt. All the blocks are quilted in a different style so there was a lot of learning for Sandra.

Landscape workshop

Here are the results of the 7 students work after the Saturday Landscape workshop and I am pleased everyone chose their own inspiration which made each piece individual. A lovely selection of results which will be enhanced in the next few weeks. Watch this space to see the finalised results.
The Monday evening Carol used a postcard of the planets as her inspiration to do in this workshop.

Tuesday afternoon Carol has created this beach landscape and is adding some beach items.

Estelle has created this landscape piece based on a poster by Mr Wilkinson in the railway posters from the past. Estelle intends to add trees and bushes and maybe a stream.

Sharron has made this lovely landscape and I look forward to getting a photo from Sharron showing the completed piece.

Val selected a coastal picture for her landscape. We look forward to seeing the quilted result of this piece.

Brenda selected this landscape and went home very happy although she was a little nervous about the result earlier in the day.

Dawn, I got the name right this time despite Dawn trying to escape without me taking a photo. I just got it as she left the workshop. It will be good to see this finished with poppies in place.

This is the basic result of doing the landscape workshop. From this trees houses etc can be added and embellished and free macining. Bring your own picture as your basis.

Leza has made this memory quilt using her past husbands shirts. Sue from Quiltessense has made a super job with her long arm quilting pattern.

Sharron made this quilt started at the equilateral triangle workshop.

Jayne has made this pretty pink cot quilt. The strips did not take long to make but the hand quilting took longer.

What a lovely cushion. The worry is I can not remember who made it. Please give me a clue.

Was it Margaret? Lyn has made her first bed quilt and its really well made.

Andrea waited for January to prepare this bowl ready for christmas. She blames it on the snow.

Margaret had fun with this kaleidiscope quilt. Not the easiest pattern to follow.

Elsie made this lovely bag. She should be very proud of it.

Prairie Braids workshop 29th Jan

Carol chose similar colours as Rory and the braids worked really well.

Sharron made this braid but the green was not strong enough and distracted the lovely patterned materials.

Rory started on this braid at the workshop and soon you will see her finished quilt.

This is Sharrons secon braid without the green and looks really good now. Its worth changing it before you do too much.

Lyn chose these lilac colours and we need to see more soon.

Margaret really liked the idea of making a bed quilt with her materials and is going to make 10 braids to make the whole quilt with different centre squares.

Betty went bright this time andsince the day she has changed this by removing the bright blue and turquiose and using the flowered materials instead. betty was so pleased with the change there are now 5 braids and soon they will be joined.

This is the sample for the Prairie Braids workshop. It can be simplified if you ignore the black and that is an option.

Crazy wedges workshop

Carol chose purple for her wedges.

Estelle matched her materials with some of Marion Jacques salmon pink material.

Mary's is on the left and Gill's on the right.

Betty used a pale where I had used black and it worked out well.

Jan also had her brown quilt long arm quilted by Sue. The students are really pleased with the result.

Ah! Snow can make the garden look magic but where were the students. Whoops our road was really bad.

Rory has finished this log cabin. The blocks were small so a good finished item. Rory found the Janome 1/4" foot was not 1/4" so has adapted hers.

Jacky is a happy person as this quilt was started about 20 years ago and now it is finished after hours of hand quilting.

Dawn has finished her bag. I am sure she was happy to finish it.

Dawn's bag was a challenge for a teddy bear expert but it got there.

Mary like me can not resist doing a bit of patchwork on holiday and look at the result. A rich crazy patchwork using all the fancy stitches on her machine.

Mary loves experimenting with her fabrics and this has really worked well

Barbara has finished her travel bag and I must apologies about the icture quality

Ineke has surprised herself and come to really like her jelly roll quilt after all.

Rory has not just made one of these cushions but four. Unfortunayely it is not possible to appreciate the quilting on this photo.

Peggy is a relatively new member of my Thursday afternoon class but with sheer determination she has managed to make her first quilt. She is deservedly very proud of her achievement.

Susanne has finished this beautiful summerly quilt for her daughter. I had a problem taking a photo as it is so big. Well done its a master piece.

Trish from Thursday afternoon has just managed this baby block wall hanging. Not an easy task so well done.

Sharron started with this sample and apprently she is going to expand it to a larger piece.

Gill used these bright colours to produce this sample.

Betty managed to use some more of her scraps to produce this sample. Betty has been trying to use up her scraps but it is an a impossible task.

Bridget selected these materials and enthused to either expand this or make a large quilt based on bargello.

Vivienne managed to produce this despite missing one row. See if you can find it.

Gill has tried this bag for her sons partner and I am sure she will be making more.

Gill has made this lovely crazy quilt for her sons partner. It is made with brushed cotton and worked really well.

Willow my grand daughter now 1 year old. What a sweetie.

Jacky was going to make a small wall hanging but it ended up 4 times bigger. Well done.

Linda wanted to try foundation piecing and this dolls cot quilt is one of a pair.

Workshop examples for Pot Luck applique. Both bonded and hand turned applique was tried. Students results in 1 day finished results to follow in August or September.

Betty chose to position the large pot as 3 together.

Carole liked the slimmer vases and made this layout.

Vivienne selected 3 different vases and later added some flowers.

These were the hand turned applique to give the students an opportunity to find their preference.

Elsie made this bag for her grandaughter who is studying music.

Rae has made her version of the quick crazy quilt. Since the workshop that I ran earlier this year.

This was val's very first item and apologies about the focus. well done.

Thisn is the back of Gill's new foundation pineapple quilt and quilted by Sue of Quiltessence and what a wonderful job.

Here is Gill's cot quilt using foundation pineapple blocks inspired by the workshop done earlier.

Sylvia has produced this sew a Row quilt from the book by Karin Hellaby. It is a good learning book for beginners instead of doing sampler quilts and well done sylvia it looks stunning.

Estelle has also done a Sew a row quilt and used a lot of her stash and worked really well.

Margaret has completed her French braid piece made during a previous workshop. This has lovely colours.

During my Wednesday morning class we did some stained glass pieces from Gail Lawther.

Lynne also did the same as Julie and made hers in red.

Jean made this fron Gail's book with these lovely beach huts. The border was made with material with pebbles on and so appropriate.

Well done Ineke with this Bargello travel bag. Stunning.

The last workshop was Quick crazy patchwork and this is one of the blocks from the project.

This is my Quick crazy patchwork sample which is the base of the workshop.

Margaret produced this on the day. I am impressed they managed so much in 6 hours it certainly was quick

Gill also managed to complete all blocks and add sashing and border using batiks. This really worked well.

Betty did not add sashing and used up more of her stash. this looked a lot better than expected by Betty.

Mary also finished this in 6 hours and used white as sahing and border which looks very fresh.

Mary is part of the Infinity group I run as well as a class member and she has made this amazing contemporary tree.

Betty has made this bag using a japanese folded method. The pieces were joined with zig zag stitch.

Leza has made this fabric bowl in her favourite colour. It really worked well.

Trish found this snowflake pattern in the Times and hand quilted this cushion. The photo does not show the details well.

Angela started class in January and made this french braid quilt with her materials bought in Canada. Angela machine quilted this herself.

Rosemary only joined the class this year and she has completed this quilt for Zac. Sue of quiltessence completed the quilting for her. Well done.

Leza loves Orange and here is her first wall hanging. Sorry about the photographer.

Margaret has made a second cushion in this for her car.

I could not resist adding this picture of Willo at nearly 9 months.

Jenny made this batik mix with lots of different braids.

Sharron decided to make a full size quilt so the cutting to a lot longer but the selection is working fine.

Margaret selected this piece with a few batiks added. Really good and check May to see the finished piece.

Most students managed at least 6 blocks on the day.

Susanne finished her workshop blocks in a week, the days blocks are shown below.

Jill made her workshop pieces with Amy butler material and was a little disappointed but I think it actuall looks very good.

Mary speeded her way through the blocks and actually managed to get these together in the 6 hour workshop. Since this was made a border has been adde and I await the quilting.

Susanne made these blocks and above is the finished item completed within a week from the workshop.

Betty has made this with her scraps and enjoyed the workshop but wished she had used brighter materials.

Rae bought a pattern and made this unusual bag. it did not quite reflect the pattern but I still think it is delightful

Linda has just started classes and this is her very first piece of patchwork. the quilting stitches are very precise.

Joyce is addicted to making bags and this one is beautifully embroidered too.

Margaret otherwise known as Mags has made this colourful childs quilt. It was quite a challenge in organising the colours.

Trish has a list of projects as long as your arm and this was a cushion using fused bias binding. Well done Trish

Ineke has made this quilt and has been quilted by hand. This is Ineke's second item so well done.

Jean has made a double sided log cabin this is one side and the other to follow.

Rae is quite new to classes but very keen and with a layer cake Rae has produced this lovely simply designed quilt then beautifully quilted by Sue of quiltessence. Great result.

Mags from Wednesday class has been exploring the blocks of Margeret Miller's book Angleplay. What a stunning result.

This is a copy of Sandies garden table quilt copied from my sisters I have. Sandie made so many strip next month should show matching cushions. Lovely. So doing circular not so hard.

My sister Beryl gave me a circular garden quilt. This inspired Barbara to make one for herself and a beauty. Without a pattern we copied her ideas. Well done Barbara.

These 2 pictures are of Trish's clamshells quilt. The back and the front. It was all made by hand and designed by Trish. well done.

This is another of sharron's quilts. The centre of each block has a cat. This pattern seems to be getting featured in a lot of books this year. Well done Sharron.

My niece Rachel was married September 13th and I made this quilt as her wedding present. Sue of quiltessence did the quilting and Rachel and Tom her husband were delighted. Guess what her sister Sarah is getting married next year so it looks like another one will be made next year.

Sharron from the thursday afternoon group has just finished this jelly roll quilt. Sharron did not buy a jelly roll but just cut her own chosen fabrics so you can still dip into your stash to produce one of those patterns. Sharrons quilt was machine quilted by a friend.

Hooray! I got a 3rd under the category of Bed Quilts. Sorry the pictures a bit fuzzy.

My entry for Sandown 2009

Susanne has spent so many hours quilting this beautiful quilt made to match the picture behind the bed. Do not be afraid to wash your quilts on a gentle wash in the washing machine. Susanne did and it really enhanced the quilting.

These are my 2 entries for the March and April 6" by 12" for CQGB and are based on the White Horse of Uffington. One was made by hand quilting and the other on my Babylock Embellisher.

This is my recent srap quilt that I am entering for the Sandown quilt show. I have decide to call it Trad Jazz. Originally it was going to be called Jazzy Wazzy but I changed it at the last momen filling in the application form.

This is Sandie's cushion made with the leftovers of a beautiful quilt which is being quilted by Sue Quiltessence. We should see the end product soon.

These are the Squares produced from the Squares squares squares workshop. I hope we will see them later as they have progressed.

Marion has created this star quilt started at the Multi star Workshop.

After the pin cushion came the cushion with a difference. Trish is really becoming creative. I never know whats coming next.

Trish wanted a pin cushion and WOW that will never get lost. Very different. Black and yellow really looked good.

Mary from my thursday class has done her first cathedral window needlecase. I dont think there will be a whole quilt made with cathedrals but glad to have tried it.

Sharron has produced her first cats in the windows quilt.

Bridget came to my workshop on the shaded 4 patch. She was inspired by my winning quilt seen on my profile. This is in progress and all the piecing finished Bridget is now hand quilting with overlapping circles.

Pauline joined my classes recently and has made this bag in her first 2 weeks. Pauline enjoyed it so much and is making another bag of the same design.

Jean has made a floor quilt for a little one. Its got cats all over it. Great fun.

Chris has made this lovely quilt. It is strange the blocks are interesting before they are put together but Wow when they come together.

Jean has made this bag as her TG challenge. Great fun.

Gill has just finished this lovely simple quilt and Sue did the long arm quilting on it. With the left overs Gill made and quilted a cushion to go with it.

Rae's new to patchwork but look what she made at my Multi star workshop. Well Done Rae and we hope you will be back soon after your hip replacement op.

Gill from my Monday evening class has been rushing to finish this baby quilt. Its from brushed cotton and just ready for baby in time.

Rosalind has completed this quilt. She had started it by hand piecing then the borders were machine pieced.

Trish from Thursday afternoon has designed this quilt herself and made a lovely job of it.

This weekend was a Multi Star workshop

Mary really did a bright WoW with these stars. The black and white worked well against the turquoise background.

Gillian tried some of her Batiks on her stars and the result is good as a contrast to the background.

Janet did a real yummy pink group of stars. I am not sure how many more will be added or who they will be for.

These are Betty's stars and she started to invent her own with interesting results.

Vivienne has shown these four squares and there may be more hiding in progress. Keep watching and see the end results.

These are Marion's stars and she is going to add more to make a small quilt to be put on the end of a bed.

Here are some of Rae's stars. She has only just started patchwork classes and she really enjoyed this workshop using bondaweb. I will display her finished piece later. This week they are already together.

Well done Janet. You were never sure about this quilt but it really looks good and you should be very pleased with it. The border needs adding yet then the quilting begins.

Sharron has made this smart Pony Bag. She has found the pleasure of machine quilting.

Christine had a lovely Jelly Roll to play with and has made this jolly quilt. the left overs have been incorporated in the border with great effect.

The following cushion was developed from a block Christine selected. It has a nice country look to it.

This is Mary's latest wall hanging and you might see this at Sandown Quilt show.

Well I dont know about you but I seemed to have collected a few scraps of material in the last 15 years. So here comes another scrap quilt inspired by the expert Katherine Guerrier. Her book Scrap Quilt sensations has so many good ideas. I selected predominently my pinks, turquoise and lime greens then added what I considered to be acceptable. It is machine pieced. Sue Quiltessence has made a superb job with her long arm quilting and for anyone who hesitates about having their quilt done don't. She is the best.

This is Pam's cat quilt. its about a metre square and the material was bought in America on one of her trips. This is Jan's quilt in progress. Only the borders to go. it almost looks 3D.

The Monday Flower Power Workshop

This was a lovely day where the students learnt a completely new technique for them doing bonded applique with decorative stitches around the petals and leaves. They gained more confidence with their sewing machines. Janet almost completed this wall hanging and had fun using stitches that she had not tried before.

This is Barbara's pieces which is a lovely purple. Her Pfaff was giving her grief when doing the leaves.

This is Ineke's piece which is going to be a small wall hanging. She had a chance to try some of her machines nice stitches.

This is Susannes piece in progress. She is making it into a cushion to go with the quilt she is making.

This is a sample of Mary's blocks prepared during a workshop. There were more in various states of preparation and whatch this space to see more.

This is a quilt that I put together based on a picture of a quilt by Olga Prins Lukowski. There was no pattern so I worked out a way of putting the blocks together. I call it floating triangles.

This cushion was made by Betty on the Flower Power Workshop.

Jean comes to my wednesday morning class and here is a super quilt for her grandson. The special character blocks are surounded in green and orange log cabins. It is a quillow so there is a block on the back which turns this into a cozy pillow.

Betty from the Tuesday afternoon class came to one of the Saturday workshops on the shaded 4 patch. That was it she was addicted to make more. That was started in October and now it is ready to be sent of to Sue quiltessence to be quilted. Well done Betty.

Bev decided her piece was going to be used this christmas and really loved using the 505 instead of tacking

Betty made this lovely piece and might add a few more into a small quilt and pleased to have learnt machine applique

Viv made this piece and experimented with the embroider stiches on her machine

Vivienne's humbug from the Stripes like Bridget workshop last month.

Gill has made 3 cushions and this is the back of one of them. The lovely material is from Lonni Rossi.

Gill's quilt is lower in this blog but there was so much leftover so 3 cushions have been made. Here is the latest cushion.
Teresa has just finished this cot quilt and another one to be finished by Christmas. Watch this space.

Jenny from Monday evening class has returned to patchwork inspired by Beccas quilt displayed at Upton House exhibition Summer 2008. This bed quilt is nearly there.

Peggy came to the shaded 4 patch workshop and this is her sample. Peggy worked hard despite a dislocated arm. Fortunately her arm relocated its correct place the next day. Watch this space because Peggy now intends to make a larger quilt based on these ideas.

Rosemary loves a challenge and this one surely was. With determination this wonderful cushion was completed and no one can dare use it.

Elizabeth joined the Tuesday Afternoon class recently and this is her first mastepiece. A pram quilt for her grandchild

Here are some of the results of the workshop I held on November 8th. It was certainly stripes before our eyes by the end of the session. The inspiration was from the paintings of Brifget Riley. I saw Bridget's paintings at the Tate a few years ago and the paintings were absolutely amazing. If you ever get the chance to see Bridget's paintings do go.

I am a patchwork tutor in Parkstone Dorset inspired to patchwork by my sister Beryl in 1993 and been hooked ever since. I now teach small groups of about 8 people from home. I also run stash buster workshops monthly with the intention of all those out there with too much material a chance to use a bit more. At the moment I am the East Dorset Region 4 Representative of the Quilter's Guild and arrange various area days and workshops.
